How to Draw a Cartoon Dolphin – let’s get Initiated!
Step 1
This guide on how to draw a cartoon dolphin will start with the head of this amazing mammal. If you have seen a dolphin, you will know that they have quite a distinctive head shape. For this first step, you’ll want to follow our reference image as closely as possible, as there’s quite a bit of detail to render. The top of the head is quite long and curved, leading to the snout.
This snout is possibly the most complex part of the head and is drawn with many smaller curved lines. There will be a line down the center of this snout to give the dolphin its little smile. The muzzle is the part that can be the hardest to draw, so be sure to take it slow and replicate our example as best you can!
Step 2
You have the head of this cartoon dolphin finished, and now we can add some facial details along with the beginning of the body. Rather, add a solid black oval for the dolphin’s look. This will have a small white speck inside for a sparkle in the eye, and then there will be a curved line under the eye for extra expression. Then use another curved line with a round tip for the fin on the rear of the dolphin. Finally, add another curvy, wavy line for the dolphin’s chest. That’s all for now, so let’s move to step 3!
Step 3
This cute cartoon dolphin is starting to take shape! This third step of the guide will help you further develop the design. First, use some more curved lines to add to the outline of this dolphin’s body. As you can see in our example, the dolphin’s back and chest will be quite thick and rounded, extending to the dolphin’s thin tail. Step 4
You’ll add the details and finishing touches in the next step of this guide on drawing a cartoon dolphin, but first, we need to finish the outline of the body. First, draw the end of the tail. This opens out and then in again and is drawn with more curvy lines. Once the tail is complete, add the other fin sticking out the other side of the body. When it looks like our reference image, we can finish the final details mentioned in step 5!
Step 5
Time to add the last details to this funny dolphin drawing! This image already looks amazing, but it will look even better with the details added. These details include the tongue’s and mouth’s outlines and a few more lines on the belly and fins.
